'Do what makes you happy'
This past week, I did three things that gave me a new perspective on life—one that I might have heard many times before, but this time it felt different. I wrote an article about my dad, something I hadn’t found the strength to do for years. I made a short film, just 41 seconds long, and I started reading a book. These weren’t the only things that happened, but they were the ones that brought me peace and joy. I was happy.
This made me realize that in the busyness of life and the craziness of the world, there are things we know bring us happiness and joy, but we never give them a chance. Sometimes it's because we simply ignore them, or we prioritize other things. But after this week, as I looked back, I realized how good it feels to do the things you love, or at least give yourself the time to do them. I shared the short film I made with friends, and I was genuinely happy to see that they appreciated my work. I finally shared the story of my dad with the world, and it felt good to have written it.
I thought to myself, “What if I write more? What if I go out and shoot more? What if I put it on my schedule to go out and do more of the things I love, at least once or twice a week?”
If you’re like me and you know there are things that make you happy, inspire you, and motivate you, give yourself more time to do them. The following weeks may be better for you. Maybe the following months, and even years, will feel better!
I pray you have a beautiful week ahead!
Don’t forget to DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!
